The EGPS sets out the pathway to meeting the Scottish Government Target of delivering the equivalent of at least 100% of gross electricity consumption from renewables by 2020. It sets out how Scotland currently generates electricity, and the changes needed for to meet Scottish Government targets and deliver a low carbon generating mix.

A Task Force was established in October 2011 to help bring about greater streamlining and efficiency of Scotland’s offshore renewables planning and consenting regimes. It considered a number of areas concerning developers such as the access and sharing of environmental data, cumulative impact and resourcing within regulators. The Task Force has now completed its work and published its final report.

Over the last 2 years, the Scottish Government has worked closely with industry and regulators to develop a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) regulatory framework which outlines the consents, permits and licences needed to realise a large scale commercial CCS project in Scotland. The generic framework is designed to provide the public, developers, regulators and potential consultees with an overview of the various approvals necessary to deploy a whole chain proposal involving CO2 capture, pipeline transport and offshore storage activities.
